R3 at Holy Spirit
The program began very quietly and gently with both students and teacher feeling a little nervous. However, after four weeks we have all settled in with the new routine and with each other. Students are more confident, contributing well to our discussions and thoroughly enjoying our lessons together. As for me, I am really fortunate to have a group who are responsive and supportive of each other.
Our meeting room is conveniently located in the Stage 3 space and the students feel a sense of ownership and pride in their learning environment. In our room we have posted on the wall our learning intentions for each day and I see the children referring to them as they come and go from the lesson. On Wednesday we go to the library while Guided Reading and Reciprocal Teaching happen Mon-Tue and Thursday-Fri respectively.
I am excited by the way the students have grown in confidence and in their responses to text. Their re-telling is much more detailed and sequenced. They are already using new strategies in Independent Reading and classroom teachers are noticing their willingness to contribute in class too!
