This is the sort of text we will be using to engage our Stage 3 readers in this project. A collection of 16 magazines, each with about 20 articles across a range of genres, the Literacy Network magazines are designed to appeal to both boys and girls. It is hoped that each article will be read in one or two guided sessions.
Teachers can choose which texts they will use for guided and shared reading based on what they learn about students' interests and their reading needs. As the magazines are loosely levelled with an approximate reading age, teachers might select a more sophisticated magazine for Shared Reading and a more simplified text for Guided Reading or Reciprocal Teaching. It would be great if we could find a way to share what we are doing with some of the articles, to support each other in this project.
We are also keen to gather some feedback on these resources re. their suitability and appeal for the selected students.
